Knesset Speaker Yoel Edelstein met yesterday at the Knesset with a delegation of senior Turkish journalists. On the backdrop of the April 16 constitutional referendum to be held in Turkey, Knesset Speaker Edelstein was asked about the democratic system in Israel: "There are many ways in which to run a democracy, but I always say that it is not the system that matters… what matters is the embrace of democratic values."
Asked if he would invite the President of the Turkish parliament, Speaker Edelstein replied, "I would be very content if there will be an official visit by the President of the Turkish parliament to the Knesset. And I would be very happy to accept an invitation, were I to receive one, from the Parliament in Ankara. Turkey will host the forum of European heads of parliament in a little over a year from now, but I would be happy if we could meet, the President of the Turkish Parliament and me, even before then."
