Second Temple Sanhedrin Burial Garden Reopened in All its Splendor

13 November 2017 by Efraim Roseman

Seven acres of restored area were recently inaugurated at the Jerusalem Sanhedrin Garden, a site of exceptional archaeological and historical value situated around magnificent Second Temple period burial systems.

Some of the burial systems have large courtyards and facades adorned with examples of Jewish art from this period. The heart of the systems, and perhaps the most impressive among them, includes 70 intricately decorated facades - the number of members of the ancient Sanhedrin.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by all the partners in the park's development including: Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and Minister of Heritage Ze'ev Elkin.
