President Rivlin’s schedule for week beginning Sunday, 23 April 2017 / 27 Nisan 5777

Sunday, 23 April

10:00 – President Rivlin will hold a working meeting at his residence with the Chancellor of Austria, Christian Kern, who will be making his first visit to Israel. The beginning of the meeting will be open to the media (GPO card holders only). 20:00 – President & First Lady Rivlin will participate in the official ceremony marking the commencement of Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day, which will take place at Yad Vashem. This year the commemoration will be entitled “Restoring Their Identities: The Fate of the Individual During the Holocaust”. Also speaking at the event will be Prime Minister Netanyahu, and representing Holocaust survivors, Mrs. Ester Miron, a survivor of both Auschwitz and Mauthausen camps. For coverage details, please click here.

 

Monday, 24 April - Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day

10:00 – President Rivlin will lay a wreath at the memorial to the fighters of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, at Yad Vashem. For coverage details, please click here.

 

11:00 – President and First Lady Rivlin will participate in the ‘Unto Every Person There is a Name’ ceremony, during which they will join in reading names of victims of the Holocaust. Also participating will be Prime Minister Netanyahu, Speaker of the Knesset Edelstein, Mayor Jerusalem Nir Barkat, among other senior officials.  The event will take place at the Knesset, and will be open to the media.  Journalists wishing to attend must coordinate in advance with the Knesset Events Dept. at 02-6753538.

 

19:00 – President Rivlin will meet at his residence with Former President of Germany Joachim Gauck. The former president will be visiting Israel at the invitation of President Rivlin in order to participate in the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day closing ceremony at the Ghetto Fighters' House Museum. The meeting will be official coverage only.

 

19:45 - President & First Lady Rivlin, together with Former President of Germany Gauck will participate in the official closing ceremony of Yom HaShoah at the Ghetto Fighters' House Museum, which will be held in partnership with the Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (Jewish National Fund). Before the ceremony, President Rivlin and Former President Gauck will take a tour of the museum. The tour will be official coverage only. The ceremony will be open to the media; details as previously announced.

 

Tuesday, 25 April

11:00 – President Rivlin will addresse the Druze community’s Ziyarat al-Nabi Shu'ayb festival at the Tomb of Jethro, near Kfar Zeitim in northern Israel. The President will be received by the Druze community’s spiritual leader Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif. Coverage details to follow.

 

15:30 – President Rivlin will hold a working meeting at his residence with German Foreign Minister, Sigmar Gabriel. The beginning of the meeting will be open to the media (GPO card holders only). Media arrival no later than 14:45. Please RSVP with jason@president.gov.il.

 

Wednesday, 26 April

11:00 – President Rivlin will address the swearing in ceremony of 25 new judges in Israeli legal courts. Also speaking at the ceremony will be Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked MK and President of the Supreme Court Justice Miriam Naor.  The event will be open to the media (GPO card holders only). 14:15 – President Rivlin will present the Presidential Volunteer Medal. The medal is awarded each year by the President to individuals, groups, projects, institutions, or organizations that generate volunteer activity by adults or youth, who have raised a unique contribution for the benefit of the state and society in Israel.
